Notes on travel to Yakushima
屋久島旅の注意点
＜航空便を利用されるお客様へ＞
空港でのお預けのお荷物の受け渡しは、空港職員が手で運びますので時間がかかります（2024.11 現在）
飛行機が到着後の計画に時間にゆとりが無い場合は、荷物を預けずに手荷物のみにすることをお勧めします。
また、梅雨時期は、空港周辺の視界が悪い日が多くなり欠航率が上がります。
欠航になるのは、出発直前か空港周辺まで来てから戻ることもありますので、考慮しておくことをお勧めします。
< For passengers travelling by air >
Receiving your checked baggage at the airport takes time as it is carried by hand by airport staff (as of 2024.11).
If you do not have enough time to plan after your flight arrives, we recommend that you do not check in your baggage and only take hand luggage.
In addition, during the rainy season, the visibility around the airport is poor on many days, which increases the rate of flight cancellations.
It is advisable to take into account that flights may be cancelled either just before departure or after reaching the airport area and then returning.
＜船便を利用されるお客様へ＞
当宿の場合は宮之浦港の利用が便利です。
冬の季節（1月～３月）は、北からの季節風が強いため波が高く欠航率も上がります。
フェリー屋久島Ⅱ、フェリーハイビスカスの利用を考えている方は、結構の場合の代街手段も考慮が必要です。
他の季節でも、フェリーの場合、波高がおよそ2.5ｍ、高速艇トッピーロケットの場合、波高が約5.0ｍで欠航になります。
< To guests using the boat service >
For our inn, it is convenient to use Miyanoura Port. During the winter season (Jan-Mar), the strong monsoon winds from the north cause high waves and an increased rate of cancellations.
If you are considering using Ferry Yakushima II or Ferry Hibiscus, you also need to consider alternative means of transport in case of quite a few cancellations.
Even in other seasons, the ferry is cancelled when the wave height is approximately 2.5 m and the high-speed boat Toppy Rocket is cancelled when the wave height is approximately 5.0 m.
＜島内観光について＞
屋久島での観光は、バスでは行く事が出来ない場所も多いので注意が必要です。
島内を一周する観光を希望する場合は、周遊バスを予約するか、タクシー、レンタカーの利用になります。
また、登山を目的にする場合、ガイドを利用すればガイドの車での移動となるので車の手配が不要の場合もあります。
登山、観光とも車の運転が可能であれば、レンタカーをご利用いただくことをお勧めします。
ただし、島内のレンタカーの台数が少ないので早めのご予約をお願いいたします。
< About sightseeing on the island >
Please note that there are many places on Yakushima that cannot be reached by bus.
If you wish to go sightseeing around the island, you can book a bus tour, take a taxi or rent a car.
If you are planning to climb a mountain, you may not need to arrange a car if you use a guide, as the guide will drive you around in his/her car.
If you are able to drive a car for both climbing and sightseeing, we recommend that you rent a car.
However, please book early as the number of rental cars on the island is limited.
＜登山届を提出しましょう＞
百名山の宮之浦岳をはじめ、九州最高峰の洋上アルプスの山々は、森林限界が高く、小屋は無人で、奥岳のエリアは通信ができません。
天候の激変もあいまって、遭難率は高い山となります。
ご計画や装備は安全を優先して頂き、登山時には必ず「登山届」を提出することをお願いいたします。
また、下山時には、宿泊施設などに電話連絡等を頂けますと、安心してお待ちすることができます。
< Submit a mountaineering report >
The highest mountains in Kyushu, the Western Alps, including Miyanoura-dake (宮之浦岳), one of the 100 most famous mountains, have high forest limits, huts are unmanned and communication is not possible in the area of Okudake.
Combined with the drastic changes in weather conditions, this makes them mountains with a high rate of accidents.
Please prioritise safety in your planning and equipment, and be sure to submit a ‘mountaineering report’ when climbing the mountain.
When descending the mountain, please contact your accommodation by phone so that they can wait for you with peace of mind.
＜降雨時の登山について＞
屋久島の山は、常に雨が降る可能性がありますので、雨具の用意は必須となります。
雨量が多い場合は、白谷雲水峡などはコースがクローズになることもありますので、ご計画は柔軟にすることが望まれます。
また、沢を渡るコースの場合、上流で降雨があると増水が非常に早く激流になりますので、無理に渡ることなく対応ください。
< About climbing the mountain when it rains >
Rain gear is essential as there is always the possibility of rain in the mountains of Yakushima.
If there is heavy rainfall, courses such as Shiratani Unsui Gorge may be closed, so it is advisable to be flexible with your plans.
In the case of courses that cross streams, if it rains upstream, the water rises very quickly and becomes a torrent, so please do not force your way across.
＜冬場の登山について＞
屋久島の山は、冬場に積雪があります。
12月～3月までの1000m以上の場所に入る場合、凍結、積雪の対策が必要です。
登山靴には軽アイゼン（4～6本爪）をご用意ください。
< About winter mountaineering >
Mountains on Yakushima have snow cover in winter.
If you enter places above 1000 m from December to March, you need to take measures against freezing and snow accumulation.
Please prepare light crampons (4-6 toes) for climbing shoes.
＜虫や蜘蛛、蛭などについて＞
自然豊かな屋久島は、昆虫などが多く、持ち物やお部屋の中に入り込むことがございます。
対処・ご理解いただきますようお願いいたします。
< About insects, spiders, leeches, etc. >
In the rich natural environment of Yakushima, insects and other insects are abundant and may enter your belongings or room.
Please be aware of this and take precautions.
